Juma seeks a talented Director of Finance with a track record of success in a minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit financial management or a highly related field and serve as a key member of our Finance team. Reporting to the Chief Operations & Finance Officer, the Director of Finance will be responsible for managing all activities of the finance team, including analyses and monitoring of finances and developing and refining financial processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and update financial models, produce financial analysis to drive business improvement and design tools to aid decision making.
- Lead staff through an annual agency budget development process; conduct mid-year budget review to assess and project variance from annual budget and make adjustments as needed.
- Lead financial system improvements (such as in NetSuite) to ensure compliance and optimize efficiency.
- Research, analyze, recommend and monitor investment options for agency cash reserves, in compliance with organization’s board-approved investment policy.
- Advise the CFO on recommended changes due to shifting economic conditions and the financial health of the agency.
- Manage activities of finance team: controller, senior accountant, and part time bookkeeper
- Assist CFO in development, establishment, and implementation of procedures needed to implement/reinforce fiscal policies developed by Board and or regulations and procedures required by funding sources.
- Manage relationship with auditor, oversee audit process.
- Support CFO, who is the key financial liaison to Board of Directors. Support CFO and Board Treasurer to plan and present financial reporting at board meetings.
- Monitor monthly agency expenditures for compliance with the approved agency budget; reporting expenditures and variances to senior managers and CFO
- Work with Controller to develop monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting & statements for distribution & review by organization’s CFO, executive team, and Board of Directors.
- Oversee cash flow analysis and management.
- Support and monitor development and enterprise teams on timely receipt of accounts receivable.
- Oversee preparation of tax documentation
- Interface with funding sources to insure up to date information on funding agency needs and possible funding changes; oversee allocations of expenses to restricted and unrestricted funding sources
- Remain up to date on audit best practices and state and federal laws applicable to nonprofit organizations
- Ability to fulfill basic accounting responsibility e.g. payroll to support Accounting Manager.
- Fulfill general financial management needs as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum B.A. degree in business/finance. MBA preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience in nonprofit financial management or a highly related field
- Three years experience managing others.
- Knowledge of government-funded program accounting procedures/requirements, multi-fund and non-profit accounting.
- Skill in operating, using and managing computer accounting programs, e.g. NetSuite; advanced understanding of Excel.
- Understanding and experience with investing and risk management
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience and success in managing and motivating staff.
- Proven track record for problem solving, logistical analysis, and operational effectiveness.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
